Canadian National Soccer Foundation
In 1996 The Canadian National Soccer Foundation was established to assist children, youth and young adults with scholarships to enable them to pursue educational goals and sportsmanlike conduct.
Initially the Foundation was sponsored by professional soccer teams throughout Ontario. From Niagara Falls to St Catharines and from London to Brampton many young people and coaches received assistance from the Foundation.
In the past 10 years, the Foundation was limited to providing scholarships and donations to youth and children from specific vulnerable areas in the City of Toronto and adjoining neighborhoods.
The Foundation facilitated the development of soccer teams as well as organizing clinics for those who were interested in enrolling in soccer leagues.
The Foundation envisions new services for people who appreciate playing this sport as well as those who give ancillary services to soccer: referees and coaches. Various recipients throughout the years performed well in soccer and they were awarded soccer scholarships in the United States. This is an unfortunate reality, our young people who pursue higher education should remain in Canada with appropriate scholarships provided in our Province rather than going to other nations.
